Name Laura Wright
Birthdate December 4, 1920
Birthplace Washington, D.C.
Height 5′7″
Weight 127 lbs.
Hair Black
Eyes Blue
Measurements 36 – 23 – 35

Laura Wright, a.k.a., Nightveil, first began fighting crime in 1942. Back then she was known as the Blue Bulleteer and she battled crime and the Nazis with only her natural agility and her twin .45’s.

Her initial career as the Blue Bulleteer came to an abrupt, and almost final, end in the early 1960’s but she was saved from certain death by Azagoth, a sorceror from another dimension looking for an apprentice, who taught her the mystic arts. Returning to earth as Nightveil, she is now so powerful that even her old friends in the Femforce sometimes feel uncomfortable in her presence.

nv2Laura Wright, the daughter of Senator Thomas Wright of Florida, was born in Washington, D.C., to a household accustomed to the trappings of power. As a 21-year old debutante, she began a romantic relationship with Dan Barton, a government operative during World War II who fought a covert battle against the Nazi’s as “The Black Commando.” Dan was teaching Laura the tricks of his trade in order that she could be his professional, as well as personal, partner when Laura received word that Dan had been killed in a mission. Resolving herself to carry on in his stead, Laura continued to train and donned the crimefighting persona of the Blue Bulleteer. Her agility and expertise with the nickel-plated .45’s on her hips made her a thorn in the side of the Nazi’s for the remainder of the war and led to her becoming a founding member of the Femforce.

After the war, Laura continued to fight crime as the Blue Bulleteer but over time her prowess faded and eventually she found herself with her back to the wall, her bullets spent, as the kind of thugs she had spent a career defeating closed in for the kill. It was then that Azagoth, a powerful sorceror from another dimension, intervened and saved her life. Azagoth offered to teach her the intricacies of spellcasting and a gratified Laura Wright agreed to become his pupil. She spent years in a pocket dimension of Limbo learning the mental discipline required to manipulate magical energies and, when her training was nearly complete, Azagoth gave her the mystic Cloak of Darkness, a legendary power source, as a gift. Armed with her new powers of sorcery, Laura returned to this world and began her crusade against the wrongs of the world anew as Nightveil. Rejoining her former compatriots in the Femforce, Nightveil is most likely the most powerful entity on this planet. However, her great power has come at a cost to her humanity.

Blue Bulleteer:

bbhist1bbhist2bbhist3

Laura trained night and day to wage war against America’s enemies in Dan Barton’s place. To the world at large she was a flashy socialite, but unknown to the populace she was in reality a masked avenger, grimly meting out justice to criminals and Nazi spies alike. Not long after she entered the war effort, she had her first encounter with Lady Luger and the villainous Nazi’s Fifth Columnist thugs. Lady Luger would prove to be the Blue Bulleteer’s main foe during World War II and their clashes have been represented in several AC stories. Below is the opening splash page of the first story ever penciled by Mark Heike for what would become AC Comics.

bbhist4

After the war ended, the Blue Bulleteer continued to fight crime and evil in the world around her. In 1956, she foiled a plot to kidnap her father, Senator Wright. In the aftermath, she found what would have been the ransom note directed to her as the Blue Bulleteer. Curious she followed the instructions, only to find that it was a trap set by the wizard Rocksorr in order that the greatest enemy of his pupil, a young child named Lenore Gault, might be eliminated.

bbhist5The Blue Bulleteer was able to escape the grisly fate Rocksorr and the young Lenore had in store for her with the help of an unseen benefactor. However, she escaped never understanding how she could be the greatest enemy of the young child she had never met. She also couldn’t suspect that in a few short years her crimefighting career as the Blue Bulleteer would end.

Azagoth:

By 1960, Laura Wright had been fighting crime as the Blue Bulleteer almost 18 years, but time had taken a toll and, at age 40, she wasn’t as young as she used to be. She’d lost a step most others never had, but despite her years of experience, she was no longer at the top of her game…and the stakes were high. The difference between life and death can be a thin line when you’re facing off against the bad guys and losing that extra step can be fatal! So it was that one night the Blue Bulleteer found herself with her back against the wall and all her bullets spent as a group of armed thugs closed in to make their infamous reputations.

Nightveil:

After returning to Earth as Nightveil, Laura felt that her awesome power was slowly draining away her sense of humanity. So, she placed a spell on herself which temporarily stopped her from being able to use all her powers and she attempted to resume her role as the Blue Bulleteer. However, unused to not being able to rely on her sorcery, her return to life as the Blue Bulleteer was short-lived and she reluctantly donned the guise of Nightveil once again. Still, her desire to remain human persisted and her enemies, like Alizarin Crimson, used her innermost fears against her.

nv43Nightveil’s fears concerning her possible corruption by the great power which she wields are not unfounded. When she appears to succumb to the dark side, the threat she poses can be frightening for even the most powerful of superheroines.

nv74nv75Nevertheless, it is the villains who have the most to fear from the Sorceress Supreme…and fear her they do. Her awesome might has earned her many enemies and, out of respect for her power, plans for world domination must start with a means to eliminate her as a threat. Her foes usually attack through her fears or desires and are only successful when they can catch the unsuspecting Mystic Maiden with her guard down.

nv76However, even when she has seemingly been defeated, Nightveil’s innate courage and dogged resolve have always served her well, allowing her not only to survive situations such as being lost in the starfield of her mystic Cloak of Darkness but to eventually prevail.

Rogues Gallery:

lluger1Lady Luger battled the Blue Bulleteer during World War II and she has battled Nightveil in the present. During the Yesterday Syndrome, the Nazi fiend was even successful in sending murderous volts of electricity through Laura’s body with some help from the Shroud.

umbra1Umbra is a Voodoo Priestess who was hired by the crooked trustee of the Wright estate to eliminate Nightveil when the Sorceress returned from her studies in Limbo and reestablished her claim to the Wright property holdings. Umbra’s black magic struck the mystic maiden down but, with the help of the Shade, Nightveil was able to defeat the voodoo queen and save her own life, earning Umbra’s everlasting enmity.

gorgana

For Gorgana, possession of Nightveil’s Mystic Cloak of Darkness means unlimited power, even the power to make her ghoulish form beautiful, and that makes the monstrous witch a persistent enemy.

In 1956, a young witch named Lenore Gault and her mentor, a wizard named Rocksorr, tried to kill the Blue Bulleteer. What Laura didn’t know at the time was that she would one day become Nightveil and the little girl would become the evil sorceress, Alizarin Crimson. The malevolent witch’s efforts to destroy Laura and become the dominant sorceress on Earth have reached through time and space and Alizarin Crimson is unquestionably Nightveil’s arch-rival.

Rayda

raymontJulie Michaels has been chosen to play Rayda in the movie adaptation of AC Comics’ Femforce. The image above contains pictures of Ms. Michaels as Rayda with her AC Comics counterpart.

ff91Rayda is a human dynamo. With the aid of her protective containment suit she has learned to control her electrical discharges and she has become an important contributor to the Femforce in their battles. Rayda’s nervous system is unbelievably efficient, generating massive electrical discharges when called upon and increasing her reaction time and muscle control. She can process electrical energy that she comes in contact with for her own use, and can generate bolts from her eyes, her hands, or in a field across her entire body. She also rides a custom motorcyle powered by her own electrical discharges.

She-Cat

She-Cat

When anthropologist Thadeous Hunt murdered Burmese followers of Sekhmet and returned home with the stolen priceless artifact that they used to summon the cat goddess, it was only a matter of time before Sekhmet, an Egyptian goddess of retribution, would take her vengeance. When Professor Hunt tried to summon the cat goddess to possess the body of a young native girl, Gautama, who he had kidnapped, he lost his head. Literally! Sekhmet tore it off! The cat goddess then sought out Professor Hunt’s daughter, the teenage Jessica, who was more accustomed to civilization than Gautama. Sekhmet bonded with Jessica, bringing a chunk of Gautama’s sole with her.

It quickly became clear that Jessica was not strong enough to control the cat goddess’ bestial urges. She developed the costumed identity of the She-Cat to protect her identity during the periods when she lost control and the bloodlust took over and it became necessary for her to complete the bonding ritual with other strong-willed people in order to keep Sekhmet at bay. A bonding with Joan Wayne, Miss Victory, allowed her to control Sekhmet for many years, but when Miss Victory fell victim to the ravages of Rad, Jessica again was forced to bond with another.

The insecurity of constantly needing a strong bonding partner to keep Sekhmet from taking complete control of She-Cat’s mind and body eventually led to her discovery of the Ring of Sekhmet, an amulet which renders her immune to the goddess’ control while maintaining her paranormal abilities. Because the ring has been separated from Jessica with alarming frequency, Nightveil has turned it into a bracelet that fits securely over She-Cat’s left wrist.

Due to Sekhmet’s presence, Jessica has great health as Sekhmet is also a healing goddess. She-Cat is also unbelievably fast, cat-quick, you might say, and can run at nearly 70 miles per hour, jump up to 125 feet, and slice through steel with her fingernails due to her bonding with the cat goddess. Furthermore, she has enhanced senses…like a cat! She also has developed great willpower from years of resisting Sekhmet’s ferocious nature. Finally, because Sekhmet is a goddess, She-Cat is immortal while Sekhmet inhabits her body, unless Sekhmet were to completely possess her at which point Jessica’s soul would perish, killing her.

Sekhmet:

Sekhmet

Sekhmet

Sekhmet is the lioness-headed Egyptian Goddess of War.

A protector of the righteous, she terrorizes her enemies acting in a storm of fury and passion as she extracts her vengeance.

Ferocious and warlike she is known for her dynamic rage.

She is also a powerful healer and a patroness of medicine.

Sekhmet has inhabited the body of Jessica Hunt for over 6 decades.

Keeping Sekhmet’s bloodlust at bay takes more willpower than any mere mortal can summon and, absent extraordinary measures, Sekhmet’s presence within her would be overwhelming.

catpin5

Career:

catspec2It was during World War II that the savage She-Cat first teamed up with the all-female team of heroines named the “Femforce” by Eleanor Roosevelt. While her nature is to be catty, the support of Rio Rita, the Blue Bulleteer, and Ms. Victory earned her everlasting trust and friendship! For almost 60 years she’s fought crime and evil and her loyalty to her teammates in the Femforce, both new and old, cannot be questioned.

catint5

Bonding:

catint2For many years, She-Cat could only keep Sekhmet from gaining control of her soul by undergoing a ritual bonding with the soul of another strong-willed person. From Gautama, to Joan Wayne, to Octavia Howard, to Laura Wright, she needed help to control the evil within her while retaining her powers. On those occasions when the bond was broken, the devastation unleashed on those around her was horrific!

catint1

catrearShe-Cat has been known to be CATty around other women and her flirtatious behavior around men has sometimes led to charges that she’s CATting around! Those kinds of accusations, coupled with her prickly disposition, have led to several CATfights where the fur was really flying! It’s the same combination of her aggressive nature and quick temper that has her leaping into battle as if she were launched from a CATapult! Of course, when things are purring along just fine, she can be as cute and cuddly as a kitten. A slinky, long-legged, agile sex kitten who…ah…uhm…best if I leave that last part out. I wouldn’t want to fall victim to a CATastrophe!

Rogues Gallery:

catint4

It can truly be said that She-Cat is her own worst enemy! The demon within, Sekhmet, constantly battles for control of her soul even as the cat goddess provides She-Cat with her paranormal powers.

catint3The Shroud is evil incarnate but when his plan to eliminate the Femforce was on the brink of success it was She-Cat who foiled his plot!

Name Doctor Mara
Birthdate June 24, 1965
Birthplace Korin Province, Planet of Rur
Height 5′9″
Weight 130 lbs.
Hair Platinum Blonde
Eyes Blue
Measurements 36D – 24 – 34

When the planet Rur was attacked by the Kronon Empire, Dr. Mara journeyed to Earth seeking the assistance of Paragon to turn the tide of the war. After reviving him using advanced Rurian technology, she was disappointed to find that, for reasons of his own, he refused to champion their cause. Her mission to Earth a failure, she began working in her own way to salvage a champion. Inspecting the equipment she used to revive Paragon, she found that the unit had stored a backlash of Paragon’s stellar power. She decided to subject herself to the energy unit in the hope that she could serve in Paragon’s place as a weapon in defense of Rur. The stellar energies charged her cells and she was reborn as Stardust. Donning a Rurian radiation suit to prevent her energies from affecting those around her, she again sought out Paragon and, this time, managed to convince him to help her people by defeating a weakened Shroud for him. After the Rurian War was won, she returned to Earth to study our culture and our people and has since adopted our world as her own.

Rur:

rurpanelBorn on the planet Rur many light years away as Mara, she possessed that world’s top scientific mind. When war broke out between the Rurians and Kronons, a Rur expedition was sent to Earth to retrieve Paragon to fight for the Rurian cause. In awakening Paragon from his comatose state, Dr. Mara’s equipment was able to store a mixture of stellar energy and a backlash of Paragon’s own excess paranormal powers. Mara used this energy to transform herself into the superpowered being known as STARDUST when Paragon balked at fighting for the Rurian cause. Eventually she convinced Paragon to help, but it was her new-found powers that ultimately made the difference in vanquishing the Kronons.

Stardust’s stellar infusion charged her with the power of the Universe’s greatest energy source, the stars themselves. Able to survive the vacuum of outer space without oxygen or protective clothing, her body is virtually invulnerable to physical harm, and, acting as a constantly recharging battery, she can generate blinding solar flares and discharge destructive stellar power bolts. Like a comet, she can streak through the heavens trailing a shower of golden particles that are her namesake.

Sentinels:

sent1After defeating the Kronons, Stardust came to Earth as Paragon’s protege. Almost immediately, she and Paragon were faced with the threat of Chromo and the Vardax invasion. The two heroes did not face the threat alone, however. Commando D and his young friend Denny, Nightveil, and the Scarlet Scorpion also found themselves in the fight. The five heroes banded together to repel the invaders and defeat Chromo and the Sentinels of Justice were formed. The team next faced the mystery of Paragon’s true origin but the heroes, while remaining friends, largely stopped working as a team when both Nightveil and Stardust joined the government sanctioned Femforce full-time.

ffup2Femforce:

Coming from a planet of women, Stardust naturally became friendly with the heroines of the Femforce and ,after acquitting herself well against numerous threats, she was asked to join the team. Extremely intelligent and capable, Dusty’s biggest problem is having to deal with Earth people and their customs. Having come here from a planet of ultra-competitive warriors and scientists who value individual accomplishment above all else, she has great difficulty understanding the concepts of personal relationships and the free expression of emotions. Unfortunately, her inexperience with human emotions has resulted in the perception that she wrecked the marriage between Jennifer and David Burke. While her teammates have indicated that the matter is behind them, it has put a strain on her frienship with them that still persists.ghdusty

Rogues Gallery:

It raddgcan be argued that Dusty shares much of the blame for Jennifer’s hard feelings toward her, but Rad herself can be said to have driven her husband, David, into the arms of another woman. Ultimately, who is at fault doesn’t really matter as even a seemingly rehabilitated Rad doesn’t regard her former compatriot with anything that could be mistaken for warm affection.

proximaConstantly being on the losing end of every battle against Dusty, losing her position as commander of the Rurian armed forces, and being banished from her home planet, have done nothing but fuel Proxima’s hatred for Stardust and anyone who aligns with her.

Proxima and Stardust have a history that goes way back. Even before the Rurian civil war, the former head of the planet’s military despised the “soft” nature of her planet’s most esteemed scientist.

Synn

Name Silva Synn
Birthdate February 14, 1949
Birthplace North Hollywood, California
Height 5′8″
Weight 121 lbs.
Hair Platinum Blonde
Eyes Pale Blue
Measurements 38D – 22 – 36

Synn’s childhood was pretty bad, so she turned to drugs as an escape from her rough life. The controlled substances eased her pain temporarily but led to other problems and by the time she was 18, young Silva was dancing in a “Gentleman’s Club” to support herself. The night she was kidnapped by a bunch of zealots called “The Brotherhood of Purity” could have been the end of a short and tragic life. The Brotherhood of Purity didn’t care for those they considered to be wicked, and they saw a lot of wickedness in the world. In their minds, the young dancer was expendable for a higher purpose, the elimination of lingering bugs in the cryo-system that was intended to some day give them eternal life. To that end, they turned Synn over to Dr. Dorcas, the crackpot scientist in charge of the experiments. He needed human test subjects and if Silva disappeared forever no one would care what had happened to her.

Dr. Dorcas had other plans, and instead of freezing her he decided it would be better to “warm” her up a little bit. In a twist of fate, however, the drugs Silva had long ingested proved her salvation. The leftovers of their use had infiltrated her system and the chemical reaction caused by the combination of the drugs in her system and the experimentation gave Silva cool synergistic powers. The newly minted Synn left the evil doctor for dead and the Brotherhood of Purity fled. Synn decided to fight for people who couldn’t fight for themselves. Unfortunately, after joining the Femforce for a time, her powers started going weird and Atoman subdued her and took her to a government lab where she could be studied. Her time in the Lifeform Supranormal Development facility was not pleasant and Synn escaped to Limbo where she remained for several years until she sensed that Miss Victory was in danger. That’s when she came back and rejoined the Femforce. Over time, her powers have stabilized a little, but her intelligence and concentration level ebb in and out. When she’s having a good day, Synn is extremely intelligent and very clever in devising ways to defeat the Femforce’s opponents. On an off day, her inability to concentrate on the task at hand can lead to trouble!

Synethesia:

synnint3synnint4

All Synn has to do is think of something and it can happen. Of course, if she doesn’t keep her mind focused on the task at hand, it can cease to happen, as well. For instance, in order to get No-Nose Nanette to allow Synn to leave Nanette’s cave in limbo, Synn used her powers to mentally create a nose for Nanette, or rather, to create the illusion in Nanette’s mind that she had a nose. However, once Synn was too far away for her powers to work, Nanette no longer had a nose.

Nanette’s nose is really just an illusion, or, maybe more accurately, a hallucination she puts into the minds of others. Wait, did I say “minds”? Really, her powers can affect any animate being, as seen below where she makes animate tentacles that will only respond to No-Nose Nanette believe Nanette is commaninding them to release Synn! This use of her powers to create a synestrophic construct like this is often seen.

synnint5As you can see, Synn can be pretty clever in using her hallucinatory powers. They make her a force to be reckoned with despite her seeming like an airhead. At left, after the other Femforcers had been battered senseless by FemParagon’s physical strength, Synn explains how she used her powers to trick FemParagon, resulting in the alien’s capture.

synnint1synnint6

Against FemParagon, Synn created an entire synestrophic world in the alien’s head. Synn’s synesthrophic constructs can be either animate, living, organisms, or inanimate objects. Imagine the powers of Green Lantern’s ring except better! If she can think it, she can create it! Above, Synn used her powers to create living playmates for herself named Manga Synn and Poppsie Popp. Below, she devises her own unique method to save a plummetting Tara from one of Dr. Rivits’ murderous schemes. Who else would have thought of banana cream pie as a safety device!?!

synnint2

From the earliest days of Paragon Publications, Synn has had a habit of stumbling across the evil witch’s plots, giving Alizarin a psychedelic headache.

yummOkay, so he’s not much of a “rogue.” Still, Synn’s powers did create him and, for a tasty treat, he has a heck of a temper. Pencil in Yumm! as one bad ice cream monster!

The Brotherhood of Purity:

synnori1A citizen’s group that didn’t like the misconduct of the youth. They tried to impose their own vesion of morality on those unfortunates they considered undesirable.

synnori2These “religious” men considered the life of Silva Synn to have been a total waste and saw only wickedness. They felt no wrong in ending her life, especially if her death could be a service to mankind!

They turned the young dancer over to Dr. Dorcas, the scientist who was working on the cryo-system that would give them eternal life on earth. The doctor needed human test subjects to work out the bugs in his freezing machine, but, while Dorcas was a crackpot, he wasn’t blind, and when the Brotherhood left the lab he decided that the comely girl was a dish best served hot!

synnori3synnori4synnori5

However, the effect of Dorcas’s machine combined with the latent drugs in Silva’s system triggered an expansion of Synn’s mind at an incredible rate until she was capable of unimaginable mental powers! Not exactly what the Brotherhood of Purity had in mind when they chose poor Silva for experimentation.

After her graduation from Florida State University with degrees in Veterinary Medicine and Wildlife Management, Tara convinced her father, the wealthy T.C. Fremont, to devote a considerable portion of his assets to creating a sanctuary for endangered wildlife. That project became known as “Jungle Island.” As the project made headlines, Tara, who served as both supervisor and spokesperson, was dubbed “the Jungle Girl” by the press.

tara7A few years later, Rio Rita Farrar (the grand daughter of the original Rio Rita) was lost in the heart of the Amazon jungle while escorting Dr. Carlos Jimenez and his invention, the Time Triangle, to the United States. Since the mission involved tracking and jungle survival, Joan Wayne contacted Tara, an expert in both subjects. The mission was a success, due primarily to Tara’s involvement. After that, she was invited to join the Femforce and has been a member of that group ever since.

Some time after joining the Femforce, Tara was slipped the “Garganta” formula by the producer of a Spann-xx infomercial. The formula has given Tara the ability to grow to great heights at will. Her ability to grow is limited by her ability to focus and she has not completely mastered her growing power.

taraint1

taraint2

taraint4taraint3From her very first adventure with the Femforce, Tara has shown herself to be a capable and resourceful heroine. She’s a remarkable athlete, having spent much of her adult life honing the skills to survive and thrive in the jungle. She is also quite proficient in the use of hunting knives, and is quite adept at hand-to-hand fighting techniques. A master tracker, Tara stalks foes from concealment and strikes quickly and efficiently.

Moody and introspective, she sometimes gets lost in her thoughts, particularly when she is in the jungle spending time with her beloved animals. Danger always seems to find her in these quiet moments when she is alone with no one to help her. At such times, she often manages to survive only by sheer force of will.

anitaraIn the pages of Good Girl Art Quarterly’s Summer 1991 Issue, the producer of a Span-xx infomercial slipped Tara the “Garganta” formula. The effect was supposed to be temporary, but it’s never worn off. After the initial shock, Tara came to view her power as a good thing and it helps her self-esteem to not be the only member of the Femforce without a “super” power!

rivitduoBy far, Tara’s most longstanding foe is the evil Dr. Rivits and his equally nefarious daughter, Roxanne. From Tara’s earliest days on Jungle Island, she has constantly battled the Doctor’s mad schemes for world domination and his attempts to use her island as a base. The Rivits Family has captured her, tortured her, and left her for dead on a number of occasions, but she has always managed to survive their demented plans.
